How To Improve The Water Pressure In Your Boiler

If you want your boiler to be able to push hot water through your heating system, it will need to have an adequate water pressure. When the pressure drops, the heater will fail to function properly and you may even find that your boiler turns off altogether. Use the following tips to improve your water pressure if you feel that it is too low:

Step 1: Give any visible pipes in your heating system a quick check to see whether there are any leaks. If you do find one, you will need to contact the manufacturer.

Step 2: In the absence of any leaks, you will need to turn off the heater through the boiler. Inspect the pressure gauge; if it is below 1.5 bar, your system is in need of refilling.

Step 3: Locate the filling loop, which is a flexible loop found between the boilers and the copper pipe labeled ‘water in’. The loop should have a knob in the middle and will hang down where it is attached to a number of pipes.

Step 4: Twist the knob clockwise; you should hear hissing or the sound of running water. This is how your water pressure is being increased. Make sure you watch the boiler’s gauge to ensure that it doesn’t go over 2.5 bar.

Step 5: Twist the filling loop knob counter-clockwise once you are happy with the water pressure to turn the filling loop off.

Whilst it is one thing to increase the water pressure in your boilers, it is a completely other thing to understand why it dropped in the first place. Often, this is due to leaks in the system (as covered in step 1), cold weather and the age of the boiler (as the pressure will drop over time).
